I hate inefficiencies, be it in the office, at home or organizing a plan or event, I don’t like uncertainties, especially when we make plans and it gets canceled on the last minute. It’s really annoying because we could have made other plans if we were being informed earlier.
When you organize a meeting in the office, make sure all relevant parties are being informed in advance, book the meeting room, get the laptop and projector in advance etc, not last minute assign people to do it and if you know your being called for a meeting, respond to the coordinator on your availability, don’t just be silent and not turn up! And organizers should follow up with attendees, and reschedule the meeting if necessary. If a meeting is rescheduled, the whole work plan is at a halt. No one can move on with the project as a meeting is normally to thrash out issues or come to an agreement.
As for social meetings or meet ups, if a plan is not definite or confirmed, how do we know it’s in place? It’s like you keep on planning since a month ago, with a date and time but never even confirm it...! People block their calendar for such things and if it ends up not confirmed, and doesn’t take place, it would be such a waste of a day in someone’s calendar as they could have assigned another meeting or something else to do. Most of the time miscommunication arises due to this kind of planning, if there is a plan for something, make it and stick to it, if you can’t give early notice, don’t leave the other person hanging, it’s really inconsiderate. As much as punctuality comes into play here, it’s still better late than never, at least that’s what I think, but of course not too late until the other party leaves!
And now, when I’m planning on this reunion thingy, I have sent out invitation to 150 plus people and I have 82 people not responded. Don’t they have any regard what so ever for the organizer who is doing all the work!! It’s not like we are being paid or we are earning any money out of this event, we are even taking payment less than cost price and looking for sponsors so that invitees don’t have to bear the cost! Request for payments in advance is also a huge task, asking for each of their contact details…, but what to do if people just don’t care to repond…
I’m easily annoyed these days; it’s a sign of growing old perhaps? Sigh…
