Reunion: BBGS@Pavillion

4th Aug 09: The reunion was a blast! Beautiful deco, posts / banner, photo shoot booth, the souvenirs it was all nice. BBGS-ians from all ages were there, and they looked glamorous n fabulous too! I was told that many flew in from overseas just to be at the reunion, I’m so proud of them, here in KL, many were around and didn’t bother to attend while others took the effort to be part of this. I salute you girls for coming all the way, that’s the BBGS spirit. It was great getting to meet the teachers, that is what I enjoyed most, and it’s nice to be remembered

Profile pics of us at the posters...

Zahira (my sis), won the lucky draw, she got a printer. None of us from batch98 got anything! normally elaine is the lucky one...hahah I guess our batch is not that lucky after all! Helmi got us each a flower at the end, so sweet!

The teachers that we met:

Pn.Jagdip – she was my teacher in standard 5 I think, teaching English, she always scolded me for being naughty and she remembers me as that only! Hahahah. I remember meeting her again in SBU, and she remembered my name then…
Ms.Jeyanthi – She was my science teacher in form 2. She was telling us how she missed BBGS, how things are not the same anymore. She says we are independent, we didn’t need to be chased after to get work done be it social events or homework! Also, she said all they did was threatened us to get things done, and it was done! We were a good bunch…
Pn.Wahiddah – Class teacher form 1U & 2U (year 94 & 95), she remembers us too. And she’s still small and we have grown taller than her now (she said this!) hahah
Mrs.Lyla Roberts - My english teacher in form 4 & 5(sc1) - 97 & 98. She did something really nice for me back in form 4, you see, for the Choral Speaking at Hilton (explained below), we had to wear this peach baju kurungs with kain batik and there wasn't any with my size, she went to get the same peach material and got it tailored to my size, I actually told her it's ok, I didn't want to join, but she insisted and went out the extra mile anyway...so yeah for that I'm grateful.
Pn.Azawiyah – didn’t really teach me, but she remembers me 
And of course, Mrs Yap (the legend according to Hasliza), although she wasn’t the HM during our time, but we remember her from primary school days and just had to take a pic with her. There was Ms Chia, Mrs Jill and some others which we didn’t manage to take pics with.

Also Ras Adiba & Sasha Elite was there, Hasliza wanted to take pictures, so we all did! But Azita did the talking, since we were all “shy shy cat!”

Most of all, I miss the choral speaking. I remember one historical event that I am so honored to be a part of. We once did a presentation for the Director General of Education in 1997. The poem was all about him as he was retiring, but the guests really enjoyed it. That dinner took place at the old KL Hilton at Jalan Sultan Ismail. It was great being a part of it! Also, our class won that year for interclass competition – the judge was actually at the dinner at KL Hilton (I think there was some biased-ness since we didn’t think it was that good compared to 4sc2, which did better that year, but it’s ok, they won the next year, kan Azita..ur class!)

Ok back to the reunion, there was choral speaking, choir -singing the centenary song & school song. I loved the sing along part! Our batch98 that made it for the Gala Dinner was Azita, Eliana, Hasliza, Najua, Kartina, Audrey, Ee Von, Jin May, Ai May, Peay Ying, Farrah Shamilla all in about 15 of us. Myra had purchased her ticket but she couldn’t make it, she had “something” of the eyes, which was red and scary (according to her). Ok Myra, I know you are sad, don’t cry, I got you some souvenirs.

Friendship ball & BBGS@ Pavillion...

To all my friends & blog readers...

Pass it on :)

On the BBGS@Pavillion - Project Revive...
A note from Audrey (my classmate 5sc1 - BBGS98), Batch members read on :)& Let's join the BBGS OGA..

"Girls,

As you know, this previously overworked (but now with the economic crisis, slightly more available) '98 alumni couldn't make it to the amazing reunion spearheaded by Azita, Shaz, and others last year. I just got back from Singapore this morning but managed to make it to the AGM of the (yes, long name) Bukit Bintang Girls School Old Girls Association. A group of our seniors, including those involved with Project Revive, have been very keen to have this society reincarnated in order to bring our girls together in a more concrete and consistent fashion. A primary objective will be a focus on an education fund (named after our most endearing and well loved headmistress, Ms. Elena Cooke) which the society will run under a trust.

Ideas have been mooted and details of proposed changes to the current constitution and the manner in which the association will be run, will be in the next extraordinary General Meeting, in the near future. I have to say, I don't usually have such a privilege nowadays since we're all in all our late twenties dah, but I was the youngest member present! A new committee has been voted in with:

Phang Sow Yoong (who is featured on the back2bbgs blog) as President
Cheong Wei Lee (VP)
Anniza Jamaluddin (Secretary)
Khim Goh (Treasurer)
(Gen Committee)
Joanna Yeoh
Izreen Fara Ismail
Winnie Tang
Izan Satrina
Lai Ying
Audrey Quay

Yours truly has been included in the gen comm, quite likely becos some of our kakaks figured it would be nice to have "young blood" injected in. Note that many of them are in their 30s - 50s. If anything, I would very much want to be representing all of you - I related to them how our class pulled off the great reunion last year (plus souvenirs etc), and that I knew many of the "younger" ones were just as true blue BBGSians who know how to raise funds, run events, and most of all, live and perpetuate the true spirit of BBGS! To ensure that we have a voice, I would invite all of you to join the association - it's been going at a RM3 per year membership but since that's quite leceh, its been proposed that RM100 for life membership for all former BBGS girls should be encouraged. Please let me know if you'd like to join and I'll let you have details of the next meeting soon and once the minutes are out for today's meeting, as much as possible about that.

I won't be able to attend the first part of the August 4th event at Pavilion as I have a court case on but I have committed to be there in the evening. Those of you going, please let me know or come up to me so we can meet up and talk about how we can stay in touch via the association. It's very exciting I think, that we can be part of a pretty major education fund project which will live on, even though our building itself is gone (have to say after seeing all the old schools in Singapore preserved as museums, shopping areas, etc, I just felt...)

Girls, August 4th will be the first time I am stepping into Pavilion, which everyone in my circle of influence knows I consider sacrilegeous. But hey, we need the site, we need to make it something, and we need everyone knows the ethos of the school to come together. You know, I was most touched by what one of the other general committee members, Lai Ying, said, when the nominees were invited to present a short intro speech. She said "I'm not a big shot by the way. I work for my father and we deal in spare parts in Sungei Besi. But I am grateful for what BBGS has done for me and I would like to give back. I miss those old days with my family." I think that truly captures the spirit of BBGS, which was started for girls (considered unworthy of education in the 1890s), including and especially those who were poor and underprivileged (who cared about them but our great teachers and heads, like Ms Cooke who used to go to students houses to help them), and to see the potential in every rough stone to become a berlian. We've never been elitist and always believed in including those whom for some reason or the other, may have been forgotten. Nothing and nobody should be left behind, and even in succeeding, we have been proud, not arrogant. Even though we were considered a premier secondary school for a long time, we never forgot our roots, and I always tell people that after BBGS, none of us ever came out the same - we were always, in whatever way we needed to be, shaped and changed for the better, made more humble, encouraged to be ever more confident, instilled with a sense of responsibility and duty, inspired to dream dreams.

I have to say I just ENJOYED being with BBGSians again - although today I was with other years - it's really a good and productive fellowship that we have with one another. I'm glad that can be now formalised into an active association focused on promoting the interests of education. I would like to share one more thing with my graduating class of '98. We are just as special as all the rest of the old girls, and I think by the continued efforts I see in this group, we should definitely be part of this revamped association. Please try to let us know about joining up as soon as possible.

I know most of us are active on email and FB - add me using xxxx@yyy.com or audreyquay@xxxx.com (but please try very hard not to spam my work address, although I am much more reachable there for urgent matters) and I want to hear from you!

~Audrey"

BBGS Memories...

Went to Waterfront with Eliana the other day, ingat nak pekena Roti bakar & coffee before swimming, and we saw this familiar car & person in the car...and I said...OMG thats our teacher! We practically looked for her once we had parked the car and saw her walking into the lights shop...yes..we were like stalkers ..ikut semata-mata nak say 'hi' to her!

She remembers our faces but not our names, well yeah having thought 1000 over students, can't expect her to remember kan...so she was asking us what are we doing and also kinda surprise that Eliana and I are still friends...like you know...most people loose contact with their school mates...but we are still in touch..she was happy to see us and was glad that we did say 'hi' to her

Ingat tak korang...BBGS Class 1U & 2U 1994/5 class teacher??

Yup...that's her Pn.Wahidah...meeting her after 10 years + and she is soo small...well she was that small too when we were in school, bak kata Eliana, "we were smaller then".

Anyway...Cikgu suruh ajak if anyone of us gets married...we have her number...

a bunch of fakes!

What's with people these days? here we are organising a reunion, after 10 years & some people are just not bothered...no school & batch spirit..that's all I can say...there are so many fake expression out the like "I miss you guys"...or "I hope we could all meet again"...huh? perfect oppurtunity arises i.e a dinner reunion but they just refuse to respond or attend..they are not bothered to respond to emails or sms...so I call these breed of people a bunch of fakes!...but of course 20% of the batch are ever so supportive & another 15% are overseas but they responded how thrilled they are but are sorry that they can't attend...thanks a lot gurls...I do hope the dinner will go all well...

Anyway...back to my frustration...What's so hard rsvp-ing to an event & can't you help the organizers by at least making the payment...we have no financial backing here...the risk is all on the organizers...

Well I asked for this & I deserve it I guess!

There's just so much work done & money spent..& sometimes you can get really angry with people...I have learned to be so patient lately...I hope I still am & everything goes well...wish me luck!

mynews @ 08-May-08, 5.14pm

My mum has been asking me to follow her to office to meet this doctor that practises alternative medicine...for consultation to loose weight of course..what else is new kan...so here I am in Damansara, went to meet the doctor, and...the outcome?

As the rest of the consultation that I have gone for, I have to help myself first before they can help me...so another round of lecture asking me to change my lifestyle and telling me what to eat and what not to eat session...have gotten used to it, so now back to the original plan of steady dieting and exercising...just that I need to increase the exercise and do it more frequently after this...

Anyway, sempat go to see the dentist, as have been informed by my previous dentist, I need to wear braces! arghh..tak sukanya dah tua-tua camnie baru kena pakai...why not earlier? isk..I better get to it before I get even older later and have to wear it! so korang-korang nie...jgn nak make fun ok...I dah bagitau awal-awal nie...

As for updates on the reunion that we are organising, susahnya nak engage sponsors ni, banyak tul kerja and Elaine & I dah pegi survey souveniors for the dinner, again kena discuss balik la all the budget constrains...plus we have to start working on the art and design stuff for printing...so Azita, when should we call for the next meeting? I wanna start delegating work la...we can't be doing everything..lets engage the others too...

ohh latest news from Michelle (masa lunch with amm & her at Ali Bistro, PBD), Mich is taking the next step...the wedding is most probably next year...congrats Mich!

p/s - Dora, I dah put the time & date (at the subject title) juz to please you...hehehe
